Our Story
"My experiences with personal computers began in 1980 — long before most households had ever seen one. What began as a fascination grew into a lifelong passion that never let go. I graduated with honours in Computer Science & Music from Kwalikum Secondary School right here on Vancouver Island, and went on to study Computing Technology at Malaspina University-College (now Vancouver Island University) while simultaneously putting that knowledge to work selling and supporting computers at a local electronics shop. That early combination of theory and hands-on practice set the tone for everything that followed.
Before founding Raindog Solutions in 2003, I spent well over a decade at Island Audio in Victoria as a sales and system design consultant — working on technically demanding custom audio and electronics installations, and earning certifications in mobile electronics installation, acoustics & time alignment, and robotics & motorization along the way. That background in precision system design and client consultation combined with a systematic, logical approach to diagnostic processes shaped how I approach every technical engagement to this day.
I hold an A+ certification from CompTIA and bring over 45 years of varied hands-on experience across computing, networking, electronics, and audio/video to every client I work with."

When you contact Raindog Solutions, you're contacting me — Rainer. I'm the one who answers, the one who shows up at your door, and the one who follows up afterward. There's no dispatch centre, no rotating roster of technicians, no explaining your setup from scratch on every visit. Just a familiar face who knows your equipment and takes care of it the way I'd take care of my own.

I believe in plain language. I'll tell you exactly what's wrong, what it will take to fix it, and honestly whether it's worth fixing — no upselling, no jargon, no surprises on the invoice. That instinct comes from years of working across disciplines — from custom audio system design to network architecture — where getting it wrong isn't an option and clients trust you with valuable, sometimes irreplaceable equipment. Whether we handle things remotely in minutes or I come to you depends entirely on what makes the most sense for your situation. I'll always tell you which approach I'd recommend and why.

Beyond Computers
Outside of IT work, I've spent decades as a musician, songwriter, photographer and audio and video producer. I write, record, mix, and master my own original music, handling every aspect of the process — from composition and arrangement to final production, video and album art. It's a parallel creative life that keeps the technical side sharp and the problem-solving instincts honest.
Rooted Here
My connection to the Oceanside area goes back to 1975, when my family moved here from the mainland. I grew up here, went to school here, and after years working in the south island region, returning to Oceanside (Nanoose Bay) in 2017 sure felt like a return home.
Serving clients in Nanoose Bay, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and the surrounding communities isn't a service territory to me. It's the place I've called home for most of my life, and that matters deeply to how I do business.
